Good Work by President Trump Together We Stand!

 President Trump is doing much good, important work! However, the why he is doing it may do much damage to this Republic. That is not his fault. It is our fault: the fault of US citizenry. In this Republic we decided to use representatives. We have not been using them. We turned them loose without our support, guidance, control, or anything! Without our active support our representatives lose their power and we lose and we without their service lose our republic. Without our republic we can become powns, slaves, useless, or... Together actively nominating, electing, supporting, and using our representatives well we stand. Without working our republic can we even be we.

We are very important. We benefit by thinking more about us and talking more about us and how to support one another and our representatives. Doing so makes us effective citizens and the better part of Our Republic.

                I am very surprised that Hong Kong has the highest number of viewers here now. The United States of America held first place here for decades. I am very sad not to see the U.S. as one of the top four.

Who Will "Us" Be?

 What are our protections? How do we keep from being lost in the great world? Family helps. Neighborhood helps. Statehood helps. Our nation helps. But we need a more. Dialogue may help get the needed more.

"Nation" Is Related to Governance

Nation: the word            

               "Nation" was born from a word that meant "to be born'' came to mean "breed" or "stock." 

                  

                 It next came to mean ''that which has been born,'' that is ''a breed." But it soon came to refer to s species or race.

                "Way down yonder in the Indian Nation" is a refrain from an old song which got me to thinking as an America am I of a race or a racist, or both or neither? It seems that most Indian tribes fit the meaning of nation more fully than we do.

Race

                So according to the dictionaries, "nation" came to refer to a race of people.

            "A race of people" people implies a strong blood or genetic relationship.

History

                Our blood and our history seem to have strong effects upon us. A word's history is carried with it, much like your history is part of you. A word seems pretty bloodless, but once one gets into our mind it can get pretty bloody.

                Very recently in our history we started to use ''nationality'' and ''nation" in reference to our country of origin and meanings, if not become confused, certainly began to change for many of us. "Nation" has been taken over as a political/legal concept of nation as ''an organized territorial unit.'' by this notion the United States of America can be called a nation.

Webster dictionary

                My Webster dictionary uses the words birth and race as part of an ongoing part of the meaning of "nation." It goes on to say that nation refers to a group or aggregation of closely related persons. Closely related persons form a "we." How do we form a we? Can co-operation and communication do the job?

Culture

                A common culture forms a we. A culture is learned even though much of that learning is not consciously done. We can learn. It's possible to learn together.

Are we willing to learn together? I think that we create and maintain a more perfect union when we want to. It just takes some doing.

Community

                Another dictionary says that what we have come to call a community of people of one or more nationalities and possessing amore or less defined territory and government, is a nation. I can't remember the exact nature of a community just now. I does seem like this dictionary is trying to describe us. How are we describing ourselves these days? Dictionary compilers keep trying to give a realistic definition to a word we have twisted out of shape.

Language                

                Another modern dictionary tried this. "A nation is is a people, who share common customs, origins, history, and often language." This seems a good try at defining what many people now mean when they use the word, nation. This culture,  union.

Legal and Political Actuality

                Another more modern dictionary seems to lack heart and feels less congenial to me. It says, a nation is a rather large group of people under a single, usually independent government. Looking at the reality it may be a try at the actual reality, but it is not very attractive.

Country

                Well, many of us feel that we have a darn good country. We can be on our way to deciding or remembering who we are and what we are. A country seems an Ok start.

                

                Still, nation, does have a nice ring to it. Could the Navajo nation or Iceland be examples to take a look at. They may be good 

examples for nations, but not the right ones for us.

We Can Do it Anyway We Want.

Governance: We May Need a Better Way to Talk About It.

                        Societies develop. Governance is developed within a society. For governance to exist there must be some common consciousness among some members of society and and government, the more the better. There may be nearly an infinity of tentative kinds of governance, but the kinds which develop within a given society depends upon the histories of the members of that society and their present consciousness..

                    In the U.S. two primary types of governance prevale, republicanism and democracy. Republicanism is the form  actuall practiced. They are still prominent, but the members of the society have lost some consciousness and awareness of their natures. 

                   Americans chose republicanism largely because it seemed the most doable of the two, many had hopes for the development of more democratic governance, but today there is some fear that we are losing our Republic. Too many of us may lack understanding of both forms of governance historically important among us. Even fewer seem to understand the difference between the two.

                    Modes of governance exist because of the awareness and consciousness of  them in the people of the society. The nature of a particular form of governance depends on the quality an prevalence of awareness, the awareness and consciousness of the people. 

                    In a republic, the power of governance is stratified. In the US  wealth, education, and experience of one gives that person a great deal of opportunity to rule. French "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity" is less strongly present in a republic than it typically is in a democracy. So, even the French republic had some pretentions to democracy.

                In some parts of  our population, awareness of the values of a republic and a democracy is, at least, a fairly strong memory, but in too many of us there seems too little consciousness of the values of republic and democracy.

                In that we are the ones responsible for our governance(if we aren't, who is?), it seems best that we know how to work our government pretty well. How are we to govern our counties, towns, cities, states, nation, school districts, and more. Or, have we truly chosen to abdicate that responsibility?

                When we choose to govern there are plenty of us to do so, and with  practice improvement often happens.

                So, is it time for us to consider how to govern? Getting informed is important. There is plenty of information among us. It is possible to honestly share that information.                 It is not all about Ukraine. It's about us too. Yes, You and me. Please try to check the history or to find someone who can. It may be difficult to take, but can help us stay sane. Help us to learn more. Use the "comments" section below. You can comment anonymously if you wish. Honor and honesty appreciated.

                       

                  It may be difficult to take, but can help us stay sane. The thing is that history gets too real for to many. Still most of us still know that reality is good for us and reality is  good to learn from.

Active Citizen Two: A brand new political organization

  A Brand New Political Organization.

Many in the U.S. are considering brand new political organizations for many reasons: a new national party, a coalition, an ad hoc effort to promote a special bill or effort, for social betterment, and on and on. They want organizations capable of working with large numbers of active citizens. They are expecting wider participation in self-governance. They want to do that which effectively furthers their aims right now.

There is much which needs to be done and many of us to do it. However, just now I will offer a list of hints which may prove helpful to an organizer. 

The hints:

~ Be inclusive. Help anyone who wants to be a member, be a member.

~ Keep in mind that teaching one another is important. Outside help can be useful, but that which we do for ourselves is more important. Each a learner, each a teacher.

~ Clarify aims and goals. Restate them often. Better them when you can.

~ Arrange to have each member have opportunities to help in achieving those goals. How will that be done?

~ Arrange to take care of all business promptly. How will it be done. Arrange for the ongoing education of all members. That's education in the skills and understandings necessary to the organization and organizational aims.

~ Make each member an educator. You do not have to use any of these hints; but anyone of them can be very useful.

~ Demonstrate abundant and appropriate trust in each member.

~ The fewer secrets the better and "no secrets" is the best policy.

~ Let each member know that he or she is participating in the creation and nourishing of the organization, its philosophy, and its doings.

~ Lay out clear steps for accomplishing the important doable goals of your organization. 

~ Remember you are not alone. You are part of an organization. laying out, demonstrating, making, and doing are group affairs and  doings. Members want to be active. Let them be active. 

~ It is best that a goal members undertake not only be important and doable, but also ought to be attractive, challenging, and a big deal.

~ Set out a goal or two to be completed today. That is you as in you all set out a goal. You all want your organization to be where the "doings" are.

~ Each member deserves a worthy job he or she can work right now. What a power house an organization can be! Your organization is a big powerful group.

~ Make clarifying the "grand vision" of your organization an ongoing activity. A grand vision for me might be the ongoing practice of active self-governance. or the ongoing practice of participatory democracy.

~ Ends, goals, objectives, aims can all be good. However, to be well done is important and the way it is done can be the most important.  

~ Aim to govern yourselves by practicing active self-governance of the whole. Begin with "how to do" teach-ins.

May these hints/suggestions help you in your action plans.

We have a lot to learn and a lot to do. Its that there are a lot of us to help with that learning and doing. 

As That Active Citizen

As a participant in a meeting it is fair and useful to:

~ Show up.

~ Speak up.

~ Name the problem.

~ Team up.

~ Find a partner.

~ Frame the discussion.

That is: be there; address the group; Clarify the topic; Identify those of like mind; make a friend; listen and learn; sum up what the meeting has been about.

It all starts with showing up and being there.
